about

I was driving when I felt overcome with a wave of intensity and overwhelm that forced me to stop the car and purge out the emotions that were moving through me. I then chose to write as an attempt to release and shift those feelings into another form. This song shaped itself over a few days of trying to wrap my head and heart around what was happening internally. ‘Good Grief’ sinks into the depths of fear and grief. It’s thick with layers and echoes very literal experiences through the guise of metaphors, real dreams, and waking visions. It reveals itself in the blurring of the conscious, subconscious, and nonconscious realities, smudging the line between past and present, childhood and adulthood. It’s bricked up with vivid vocals, a guitar drone, a stripped-down kit, and cemented with the chiming of a precious silver necklace.

lyrics

Acid churning, slow-burning
The wait for the sun to roll out
Just a bad sleep, a sick dream
Still pulling the glass from my mouth
Three pages puppet
Spirals purging out

A strange hand is squeezing
The last of my light slipping out
Its tendons still teasing
Its fingers start cackling out loud
They twist me around
And pull my teeth out

Mama can you see
Where is the clearing
Father are you there
Do you hear me

It's a taxidermy fantasy
Tower walls, the waiting room haunts
A branding so fateful
The iron pierced through with such force
The loneliest grieving
Wounds retching and stealing

Sulphur sits on my tongue
Mind dismembered, no memory at all
Tarred and feathered, the little ones
Barren land, once a sea of pearls
Young girl through the mirror
Facedown in the river

Mama can you see
Where is the clearing
Father are you there
Do you hear me

Feed me coffins of silver
Fuck me wrapped in rose gold, my dear
Justice detained and left to wither
Nothing feels safe and we can't catch the killer

We can't catch the killer
We can't catch the killer
We can't catch the killer

about

Blue Vow Cape Town, South Africa

Blue Vow is the solo project of Cape Town based Chelsea Ann Peter. What began as a spilled feeling in February 2021 had churned to the release of 'Sunfall' in February 2022.

Drawing influence from roots music, sombre ambience, distorted guitars, feedback and psychedelia, ‘Sunfall’ immerses itself in the darkness and the light, but finds its air on the edge where the two forces meet.
